After all the rain, fog, wind and cool weather we have been
experiencing, it is a pleasure to see blue sky and sunshine for the second day
in a row! Yippee!
Here we are ride sharing and in the “line-up” preparing to go into
town for our cruise around the Rock with the hole and on to Bonaventure Island .
They showed us a short movie explaining the island, the birds and
a little history of them. This is a National Park operated by Parcs Que’bec.
It is amazing to see the number of birds that nest on the island each year.
Bonaventure Island is the most accessible Northern Gannet Colony in the world.
Their nests are all exactly the same distance apart and although they are very
social birds, they don’t allow others in their area. There are also numerous
other species of birds that nest on the island but the Gannet population is the
largest.
After docking, we had a brief orientation of the hiking
opportunities on the island, toured the old house, restaurant, small museum and
enjoyed the natural beauty of the island.
We returned to the campground and prepared for a potluck, Bingo,
and passing Moe on to the next person found doing a good deed! What a fun day
we had!
