Day 1 - Rendezvous - Hermon, Maine

Welcome to our trip journal for the Gaspe and Canadian Maritimes. We are Barry & Terry Klein, Wagonmasters for Adventure Caravans. Spence and Madeline (Madi) Schaaf are our Tailgunners, and we have a great group of guests. We plan for everyone on the tour to update our travels as we go. Please understand there may be a delay occasionally due to places that offer limited or no internet access along our route. We’ll do our best to keep current, so you can follow along with us on our journey. Please invite your family and friends to travel along with us!

Our adventure begins in Maine and goes to Quebec City, then follows the Gaspe Peninsula from west to east, goes across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island (PEI), Nova Scotia, ferries to and from Newfoundland and returns to New Brunswick via Nova Scotia.  It is a jam packed 56 day trip including a visit to Labrador and viewing the Bay of Fundy; maybe even rafting the Tidal Bore.  There are possibilities of seeing moose and icebergs.  One never knows what each day will bring.

We have been busy, planning and preparing for the tour.  All 4 staff have been welcoming everyone as they arrive and inspecting vehicles to head off potential mechanical problems.  We’ve had social gatherings in the afternoons for several days prior to our rendezvous as all of our guests arrived early.

This afternoon was our orientation meeting, where we shared lots of information with all of our guests that we hope will help them have a more enjoyable and less stressful trip. We had a great meeting, with plenty of snacks. Mo the monkey was introduced and given to our Tailgunners for all of their help with us as well as the guests in getting them ready to take this journey.  Mo will be passed around by our guests to those who pitch in and help each other.  Blank Maritime Bingo cards were distributed. These required guests to meet their fellow travelers and have them sign in any box, therefore giving everyone a very individual card for our future Bingo games.

Guests had an opportunity to run out and get any last minute items they may have forgotten before our luau inspired dinner.  Food, fun and friendship was enjoyed by all.

We have a great group of old and new friends and are looking forward to getting this tour on the road.
